SAANEN HERD NGRP

This project has been introduced above. Saanen and Boer goats were imported in 2014 through a World Bank funded program. Daniel had read about the imported Saanen goats while visiting his friends in Pokhara, Nepal. He returned to Kathmandu and visited the Nepal Agricultural Research Coucil (NARC), recipiants of the goats to find their current location in the country. He explained his interest as a dairy goat farmer in the USA and wanted to check on the animals to see how they were managing life in Nepal. After several meetings at the NARC headquarters arrangements were made to visit the site now known as the National Goat Research Program and home of most of the Saanens.  That visit was in 2015, since then Daniel has continued to collaborate with the staff of NGRP and help maintain the Saanen herd by stressing the goats have unlimited access to fresh water, minerals and proper biosecurity protocols are followed during milking, to name a few. And his work continues there as soon there will be a new milking parlor and a cheese aging room.
